C's 1st Fair

Well D and M usually go to the fair to eat - first and foremost CORNDOGS - because fair corndogs are just better than any other corndog available. We usually try some other fair foods, but it really is all about the corndogs for M. This year we took C to the fair... Recently he has been crazy about horses. This all stems from the Baby Signing Time DVDs and the book Brown Bear. He can both say horse and frantically do the sign at the same time. He has had few opportunities since becoming a horse lover to see real life horses (as can be seen when we he confuses his grandma's kitchen rooster with horses - they do have something similar to a mane and a long tail). So the fair was his golden opportunity. We started in the kid area where there was a carousel of sorts with live horses that kids could ride. C wasn't interested in riding but jumped out of his stroller to get up close and personal with the blessed horses. After quite awhile of staring and saying horse (repeatedly), we decided to head in to the petting zoo. For C, life was soon to be over, as he cried "hursey, hursey, hursey" and made the horse sign with both hands. But some hope was restored when more animals were found inside. He loved the goats and had no problems petting them.  Although he didn't have any food to feed them, he kept offering them the little, plastic food shovels.

Later we headed to the kid pavilion and found toys, blocks, legos, etc... C loved the little cars.  It took a couple of tries to convince him to enter through the side with the door instead of trying to crawl through the window, but eventually he worked it out.

We also saw a fire-show.  This was pretty much C's expression through the whole adventure.  He was mesmerized.  And he quickly caught-on to clapping which he would join in on, ever so quietly.

Just as we were headed over to the horse stables to give C his joy of all joys we look down and noticed that it had all been too much for the little one.  He was sound asleep.  When we got to the horse show, we tried to wake him... but he looked bleary-eyed at the horses then snuggled right back in to D's shoulder, asleep.  We debated waiting a bit, but figured it was time to go.  Of course just as we put the sleeping C in the car, he woke up, immediately said and signed HORSE in a desperate plea...  hopefully the love hasn't worn off for next year's fair.

One more food comment... I (M) assume that all fairs have crazy foods to offer... but D assures me that this is an Oklahomaism.  Well to his delight, there was a new adventure in food this year (which we did not try)...  See for yourself, and if you've tried it (or seen it outside of OK, please!!!) let us know.

  1. You had me at corndog. From somebody who really loves burgers, that donut burger looks sick. I can just imagine how the donuts start to greasify from the meat and it makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth.
